Stan's Bar, 208 W. Savidge Street, Spring Lake ~ August 19, 2025

This local favorite (St. An's) has been in business over 75 years. Joe Stalec is the current owner and his great uncle, Stan Kulik bought the bar back when it was called Walt's Tavern. As part of his re-model, he moved the very long bar from one side of the building to the other. Because the building is so narrow, people carried the bar outside to turn it around, and carry it back into the building. That's a good story 😊
Although there is a very cool, neon sign above the front entrance, the regulars know to enter through the back.
There are a few tables in the back and some in the front, along with a large booth. Otherwise it's just the very long bar.
We took a table in the front and weren't sure if we had to order at the bar or if their was wait service. No one paid us any attention so we went up to the bar to figure it out. The man at the bar was not friendly at first but warmed up to us by the time we were finished for the night. The draft beer list was hung up behind us and our guy gave us a menu. There's no kitchen so the menu is small but pizza can also be brought in from Mama Mia's Pizzeria next door. 
First the beer: we enjoyed a Coopersville Stan's Cold Stunner, a Garage Beer (classic lime), and a Trailpoint Oh My Amber. Everyone enjoyed their beer of choice.
We ordered the hot nuts with our beers but they weren't hot and cost $10.00 😑 (price not listed).
We did much better with the burgers and dogs.

The food was remarkably good, with excellent bun quality, nice presentation/preparation, and reasonable prices.

The decor here is fun and apparently the Lions mirror used to hang upside down, until the Lions began winning 😊
We loved the no frills, hometown vibe and would definitely return. Just remember to enter from the back or they'll know you're a tourist 😉

Out in the country on the corner of 10 Mile and Alpine you will find this historic bar. There were some fancy cars parked outside. We walked in the back door to find an empty room, a pool table, and a phone booth. We rounded the corner and found specials and the bar. It was fairly busy for a Tuesday night and the ambiance was friendly and comfortable. We started with a Goose Island Beer Hug, two Cherry Wheats, and an Arnold Palmer. We were not up for their appetizers tonight so we decided to share a couple of deep-fried hot dogs. They came with ketchup, mustard, onion, and pickle, and we quite enjoyed them. Budget-friendly at $2.25 each, they were excellent with a seemingly more intense flavor. For one of our entrees we chose the Bowtie Burger served with ketchup, mustard, mayo, onion, pickle, lettuce, and tomato. The Pubb Food and Spirits, 1568 Broadway Ave NW, Grand Rapids ~ December 17, 2024

In 1904 Louis Shader ran a saloon here and these are other establishments that once operated here: Olree's Saloon, Wilson Brothers Soft Drinks, Tommy's Tavern, and West Side Bar.  West Side Bar was a biker bar that closed in 2011. In February of 2012 Jason and Steve Jenkins bought the bar and did an extensive remodel. The Jenkins sold the business about a year ago and that's about all the history we could dig up, other than the current name. The Jenkins had a friend who passed away in 2011 by the name of Robb, with 2 B's. Hence "The Pubb" with 2 B's.  The space is long and narrow, divided into two areas by the bar. We started with a Blue Moon, Voodoo Ranger, and a Bells Two-Hearted. The menu is concise, which is a smart move for a smallish bar. We like to start with tater tots but the Pubb was out tonight. Back in December, some patrons at  The Pubb  recommended The Web for its food so since we couldn't get food at  The Flamingo Lounge  we headed over to The Web. We didn't use the front door but went to the back and through the smoking section 😏 In January 2024, a fire broke out on the second story of this building so The Web was closed for repairs for a long time and has recently reopened. We don't know what the food selection was before but it is very limited at the moment and food preparation is strictly via the microwave. So we ordered three appetizers which were served hot and came out one at a time: crab rangoons, pizza rolls, and nachos. It was all adequate and we especially liked the bourbon sauce paired with the crab rangoons. We accompanied our appetizers with Coors Banquet and PBR.
