Rogue River Tavern, 4 N. Main Street, Rockford ~ May 5, 2026

The bar previously operated as The Woodshed Pub for 21 years before being sold in 2000 or 2001, closed for 6 months for a remodel, and re-opened as The Rogue River Tavern. The outside was redone in 2009. And it is a very charming place with a large u-shaped bar in the middle of the restaurant, and free popcorn. Besides the waters, we enjoyed an Old Fashioned and a Yuengling along with our loaded tots. The Tots arrived with a highly organized presentation and were very cheesy. It was a great appetizer. Three chicken tacos were served with lettuce, tomato, and cheese, and a couple of dollops of rice and beans mixed together. Ingredients were fresh and the meat was well-seasoned. A baked potato ordered was one of the smallest potatoes ever seen in a restaurant 😉 The perch dinner was excellent, the fish being lightly hand battered and very tender. The broccoli was also well prepared and not over cooked. The River Burger was perfectly round 😊 but juicy with a good char flavor. You may cho...

Fulton Street Pub and Grill, 801 Fulton St W ~ February 3, 2026

We've driven past this Westside place so many times and finally visited it this month. Their website provides some great historic information. It was established in the 1940s as El Dorado. Father and son, Marvin and Ed Sienkiewicz, bought it in 1970. They changed its name to Eldo, Nite Cap, and finally settled on the current one. In 2004, they built a new building behind it, demolished the original structure, and used the old space for an outdoor patio. The new building included a full kitchen. The building is divided into two spaces, the second being reserved for karaoke nights (happening every Thursday, Friday, and Saturdays nights for 20 years). We sat near the long bar, next to the pinball machines. Here's the second section of the place. And take your best guess when choosing a restroom 😕 We started with a Three Floyd's Gumball head and Northern Hawk Owl Ambers. According to old reviews, before 2022 the menu included lots of vegan choices which vegans loved, obviously...

Stan's Bar, 208 W. Savidge Street, Spring Lake ~ August 19, 2025

This local favorite (St. An's) has been in business over 75 years. Joe Stalec is the current owner and his great uncle, Stan Kulik bought the bar back when it was called Walt's Tavern. As part of his re-model, he moved the very long bar from one side of the building to the other. Because the building is so narrow, people carried the bar outside to turn it around, and carry it back into the building. That's a good story 😊 Although there is a very cool, neon sign above the front entrance, the regulars know to enter through the back. There are a few tables in the back and some in the front, along with a large booth. Otherwise it's just the very long bar. We took a table in the front and weren't sure if we had to order at the bar or if their was wait service. No one paid us any attention so we went up to the bar to figure it out. The man at the bar was not friendly at first but warmed up to us by the time we were finished for the night. The draft beer list was hung up ...
