The Flamingo Lounge, 930 Bridge St NW, Grand Rapids ~ January 28, 2025

Also known as "The Dirty Bird" this is an old school West side bar. Apparently it's still a biker bar but there wasn't evidence of that tonight. The space is divided into two sections, the bar area and a larger room with a pool table.
They've got a nice album collection up on the wall.
We thought we'd be able to order food because the bar advertises specific food available each day on its facebook page. But that food is available at lunch time only, something the bar regulars would know. So we settled on the free popcorn and snack mix which were both nice touches. Another patron had brought in a Brownie Bar that was available to all.
The drinks are cheap and we ordered a vodka, a Two-Hearted, and a special Deb Jeffers drink: Bourbon, Diet Coke, and a lime. Pretty, pretty good 😊
As luck would have it, the owner was there hanging out with his friends so we were able to have a nice chat about the bar.
Brent Wasker brought the bar from his Dad (Donald Wasker) in 2000. Donald Wasker bought it in the 1970s so it's been in the family a long time. It existed as a bar back in the 1950s but I have no other information about it.
There's fun decor everywhere, even a leg lamp from "A Christmas Story" movie.
From the outside, the bar doesn't seem that welcoming but don't let that dissuade you.
The servers on duty could not have been friendlier and we loved talking with Rob.
So check out the Flamingo sometime and you're sure to get a warm welcome. Just don't do coke in the bathroom 😉
(Since we still needed food, we next went to the nearby "The Web".)
