The Rezervoir Lounge, 1418 Plainfield Ave NE, Grand Rapids ~ 3/19/23

Any conversation regarding this restaurant has to begin with the historic building. According to Zillow, it was built in 1920. Bono Italian restaurant was established here in 1974 and their name is still on the structure. The Sazerac Lounge opened in 2005 (this 2011 photo shows the Sazerac name).

(Information from Michael Page in the West Michigan Then & Now group states that this three story building was built in 1890 and was known as the Shanahan block. Maurice Shanahan lived in a nearby house and was treasurer of the Bissell Carpet Sweeper Company for many years. Part of the building called Shanahan Hall was used as a meeting place for fraternal organizations and various neighborhood groups. Maurice Shanahan, 8/3/1848 - 12/24/1910.)

In 2012, the lounge was forced to change its name due to trademark bullying by The Sazerac Company of New Orleans. Since then it's been the Rezervoir. However, they still serve Sazeracs, the official cocktail of New Orleans.
The restaurant has a humble entrance in the back off of the parking lot. A long hall will bring you to the charming bar.
The adjacent space holds more dining area, a stage, and a ping pong table.
We took the round booth in the bar,
The two Sazeracs were joined by Guinness (on tap and $3 happy hour price) and a Trey Way.
We selected Cajun Fritters for our appetizer: andouille, cheddar, and green onion infused potato croquettes with ranch sriracha. They were a delicious choice and had a nice contrast between the soft center and crispy outside.
We were equally happy with our main course choices. Superb E'toufee,
tasty red beans and rice served with honey drizzled cornbread,
a very enjoyable Michigan beer mac and cheese (with crawfish tails),
and the taco special of the night, curried cauliflower with mango chutney. This was a great combination of flavors!
Our service was excellent, thanks to Gabby.
The Rezervoir Lounge has a lovely atmosphere and is the perfect spot for a little taste of New Orleans, and maybe a game of chess.
