The Vestal Inn, 6255 W River Drive, Belmont ~ 10/27/22
An establishment without windows always gives us pause but we ventured in anyway.
This is the first time we've walked into a bar and were asked if we had reservations. We didn't but we were seated quite promptly anyway.
It's a big space with lots of TVs and arcade games, two pool tables, and a bar with seating for about a dozen.
Drinks were up promptly (we love the large square cubes).
We like to start with tater tots and were in luck tonight. These tots were topped with house seasoning, house-made chili sauce, cheddar cheese, and chopped onions and jalapenos. They were some of the best we've had.
According to our server, Haile, the Vestal is known for their burgers so two of us went for them. All the burgers come on Nantucket brioche buns. The Vestal Burger lived up to its name but was a little large to handle 😊
Other than missing tomato, the olive burger was voted the best ever had. The olives were part of the sauce (heavy mayo with chopped olives).
Having the same house-made chili sauce, the chili dog basket was delicious. The all beef dogs came with nicely seasoned beer battered fries, as did the other items.
The patty melt combined cheddar and swiss cheese and included grilled onions, green olives, thousand island dressing and came on Nantucket sourdough bread. The only complaint from the patty melt fan was that the rye bread was missed.
The place came under new ownership in 2020 and updated the menu. Not having been here before we can't speak to any of the changes but we are fans of this place. The Fat Pat Burger won a recent burger award and we'll be back to try it.
A few other observations were that the men out numbered the women (2:1), service was fast and efficient, our server Haile was superb, and the bass soundtrack was a little annoying.
This group of men was here when we arrived and were still going strong when we left so we stopped to chat on our way out.
Cheers to finding another local favorite!
