The Smyrna Bar, 5022 Whites Bridge Road, Belding MI ~ 8/19/21

In this small, unassuming building you will find a wonderful, local gem. I couldn't dig up much history on it and the "about us" website link (along with others) doesn't work. But the bar was here in 1876 when it, and most of the rest of the town, burned down.
The space is L-shaped and old but has lots of character.
Our beverages appeared promptly, except for the wine. A search party was sent out to find the Pinot Grigio but it finally arrived, along with a Shiner Bock (that was flat), a delicious Painted Turtle Mango Lime Cider, and a vodka.
Our table had a dangerous wobble that we had to tend to 😊
We began with the Jalapeno Poppers and they are highly recommended. Fresh jalapenos were stuffed with the house pimiento cheese spread.
The Mattison Jam-boree burger was put together with avocado slices, lettuce, coleslaw, aged cheddar cheese, and bacon jam. It was messy and delectable.
The Smyrna Fire burger, named after the 1876 fire, came with spicy BBQ sauce, aioli (with a little citrus flavor detected), pepperjack cheese, haystack onion, and fried jalapenos. It had just the right amount of fire.
The Ladies' Room was a little rough but it was clean.
Besides having good food, having personable and efficient servers is crucial to any restaurant, and Smyrna Bar has it all. Say hello to Becky and Austin when you stop in.
We love The Smyrna Bar (off-street parking available) and the locals are lucky to have it. There is a bakery across the street where the bar gets its bread, and check out the old gas station next to the bakery when you're here. The "downtown" doesn't have much but what it has is choice.
